We’ve always maintained that camping is a family vacation that will bring you closer. Children, especially, form bonds and learn to enjoy and appreciate the great outdoors when their parents can make it fun and exciting. Before you take your kids camping, we’d like to offer a few tips to make things easier and more fun.
Camping With Kids
Kids want to be just like their parents; and learning how to interact with nature, be it in the woods or by the water, is fundamental for having a great time. Here are the top three things, we think, you can do to help your child feel more responsible and part of the camp event:
- Involve your kids in the planning of your outdoor adventure. Notice we said “adventure” – it sounds more exciting to a child than ‘vacation.” Sometimes it’s the little things.
- Give everyone their own space and responsibilities. Youngsters crave discipline, responsibility and attention. You can nail two out of three right here.
- Emphasis on family time too! Many great memories are experienced around the campfire at night, and there are lots of other ways to bring everyone together. Teamwork events like gathering firewood and cleaning up the campsite are important too.
If it’s your first kids camping trip, we suggest easing into the experience rather than jumping head first into an all-out nature fest. Consider going to a state park with bathrooms, showers and running water. Things like this help to work into the experience as to encourage more emphasis on having a fun filled adventure rather than braving the new wilderness.
