You’ve got to really think ahead on this one, because you don’t want to bring camping food that you’ll have to spend alot of time to prepare or that will make a mess that you’ll have to spend a lot of time cleaning up. You also don’t want a bunch of food that’s gonna spoil if you can’t keep it in a cooler. Simple, quick and easy is the idea. So here are a few great ideas for foods that you can take with you on your camping trip:
Breakfast
Eggs are an obvious choice, as they’re quick and easy but a little harder to keep safe and fresh. So if you’re going to be packing for a few days or longer, stick with grains that cook fast. Things like instant grits, oatmeal and couscous will do the trick nicely.
Lunch and Dinner
Again, things that won’t spoil or go bad are best. Namely canned and dehydrated instant foods are best. Re-fried beans, mashed potatoes, hummus, soups and breads are all excellent choices. Of course, if you’re on a lake you could cook any fish you can catch or any small game that you might have hunted for.
Snacks
Rightfully so, this is my favorite meal (or meals, heh) of the day. Trail mix anyone? That’s great because it’s easy to keep fresh and is easy to eat on the go. Any type of jerky is good, energy bars and nuts are also good.
All in all, you can’t go wrong as long as you keep things that aren’t perishable and are quick and easy to prepare. Camping food doesn’t have to be something you dread over deciding, just make sure that you won’t mind cooking (and cleaning up after) while out on the trail and that it won’t go bad before you finish the trip.
